The Rippe Mesh Executive Chair is a mesh executive chair for managers who want a chair that looks the part and stays comfortable through a long working day. It is not the kind of chair bought for looks that starts causing back pain within weeks, yet we will not claim it suits every body type either.

The back is a perforated mesh panel stretched over a contoured plastic shell. Side supports fill the lumbar area so the lower back is never left unsupported. At the top, a mesh-covered headrest supports the head during short breaks, easing neck strain and giving the chair an executive profile.

Mesh always sounds good on paper; the real test comes a few months in. Low-grade mesh sags. On the Rippe, the mesh keeps its shape when used correctly.

Seat foam and upholstery choice

The seat has 5 cm of foam that spreads pressure evenly across the hips, keeping fatigue down after hours at the desk. In cheaply built executive chairs the foam collapses quickly; the Rippe is not in that class.

Upholstery makes the bigger difference:

• Faux leather: Easy to clean and looks upscale, but can feel warm in summer.
• Fabric: Cooler and more comfortable, though it needs more care around stains.

Mechanism and adjustment

The under-seat mechanism adjusts height and allows forward and backward tilt, locking in place. The locking system is simple and reliable. It will not satisfy anyone looking for a multi-lever mechanism, but an office rarely needs one. In our workshop, this type of mechanism causes the fewest problems and is the easiest to repair.

Base, casters and armrests

The chrome five-arm star base is solid and well balanced, something we value as a service team that deals with bent and broken bases every day. The large casters roll quietly on hard floors and perform reasonably on carpet.

Integrated black plastic armrests strengthen the seat-to-back structure and hold the elbows at a natural height for writing and reviewing documents.

Cleaning and care

• Wipe the mesh with a damp cloth without pressing into it.
• Avoid chemical sprays, which stiffen mesh and upholstery.
• Dry-wipe the chrome base.

Repairs and spare parts
